WICHITA, Kan., Jan. 15 (UPI) -- The U.S. Air Force has exercised a contract option with Boeing to continue providing the fleet of B-52 bomber aircraft with maintenance and engineering support.
U.S. company Boeing announced it has received a contract option to support the Air Force's Engineering Sustainment Program. Under the $22 million deal, Boeing will provide the Air Force's B-52 long-range strategic bomber aircraft with ongoing lifecycle support.
The Engineering Sustainment Program contract was originally awarded to Boeing in June 2009. The exercised contract option marks the first of nine potential annual options for the company.
"Receiving the option this month allows Boeing to continue supporting our customer by sustaining, modernizing and upgrading the B-52 to meet the warfighter's needs, both today and in the future," Mike Houk, Boeing B-52 Fleet Support program manager, said in a statement.
