Norway contracts for sub detection tech

SCHAUMBURG, Ill., Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Norwegian defense authorities have contracted Sparton Corp. to deliver its hostile submarine threat detection technologies.

Illinois-based Sparton announced its Defense and Security Systems unit was selected by Norway to deliver its AN/SSQ-62E DICASS sonobuoy acoustic emissions detection systems.

Under the approximately $1.8 million deal, Sparton says its Florida-based operations will manufacture the AN/SSQ-62E DICASS sonobuoys technologies designed to help protect naval assets and border waters from hostile submarines.

"We are pleased to have won these opportunities to assist foreign nations in protecting their borders with leading-edge products. … These awards continue to demonstrate Sparton's deliberate progress into markets outside the United States," Sparton President and Chief Executive Officer Cary Wood said in a statement.
