DENVER, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- The United Launch Alliance has received a contract modification from the U.S. Air Force for a satellite launch designed to support military communications.
Colorado-based United Launch Alliance received the modified deal as part of its contract with the Air Force and the Missile Systems Center for Wideband Global Satellite Communications (SATCOM)-4 launch services.
The WGS-4 satellite, expected to launch between December 2011 and February 2012, will be the first Block II in the WGS series of satellites and will provide troops with next-generation communications.
"Following the launch of WGS-3, United Launch Alliance is proud to continue our vital role in providing the latest technology for the warfighter with this contract for the fourth launch of a WGS spacecraft," Michael Gass, United Launch Alliance president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
