ATLANTA, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- EMS Technologies has named its board chairman to a new executive director position in a move to address U.S. government requirements.
John Mowell, EMS chairman of the board, has been selected to take on the company's new executive director spot to align EMS with the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual's requirements.
EMS made the appointment to ensure its Defense and Space unit complies with the Facility Clearance License until its recently named president and chief executive officer, Neilson Mackay, becomes a U.S. citizen. Mackay is a Canadian citizen and thus not currently eligible for a U.S. clearance.
The Facility Clearance License requires the most-senior management official in a company hold a U.S. security clearance.
"Due to Neil's Canadian background, EMS has taken this interim measure to comply with federal National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual provisions and maintain the required facility security clearance to conduct work on classified programs," Mowell said in a statement.
