LONDON, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Thales announced it has successfully integrated its sonar technologies into a British navy frigate as part of an upgrade program.
The British Defense Ministry has marked its HMS Sutherland Type 23 frigate as ready for operational service with the navy following sonar and defensive systems upgrades and successful sea trials.
Defense contractor Thales was selected to integrate the HMS Sutherland with its Sonar 2087, a low-frequency active sonar system, under a deal to equip the vessel with next-generation technologies.
"Recent operational deployments using Sonar 2087 against actual threat platforms has shown this to be a very capable anti-submarine warfare system, giving these platforms a significant capability enhancement," Mike Waldron, British Defense Ministry representative, said in a statement.
