AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Northrop Grumman said Wednesday in the Netherlands that its Hawkeye early warning radar aircraft program remains on schedule for initial testing.
U.S. company Northrop Grumman announced during the Airborne Early Warning and Battle Management 2009 Conference taking place in the Netherlands through Thursday that its E-2D Advanced Hawkeye program is on schedule.
The new E-2 Hawkeye aircraft under development is equipped with next-generation detection and tracking technologies including the AN/APY-9 Electronic Scan Array radar. Northrop Grumman says the E-2D variant is "on track for initial operational test and evaluation in 2011," a release said.
"The E-2D System Development and Demonstration Program is going very well," Jim Culmo, Northrop Grumman vice president of Airborne Early Warning and Battle Management Command and Control Programs, said in a statement.
"We've successfully completed 94 percent of the System Development and Demonstration Program, and flight tests to date have produced excellent results."
