PALMDALE, Calif., Dec. 9 (UPI) -- U.S. company Northrop Grumman announced a milestone for a Block 40 configuration of its unmanned aerial system following a successful test flight.
Northrop Grumman says the new Block 40 configuration of its RQ-4 Global Hawk UAS successfully completed a flight from the company's facility in Palmdale, Calif., to Edwards Air Force Base in Calif.
The next-generation long-endurance HALE Global Hawk UAS, designated the AF-18, successfully flew approximately two hours to Edwards Air Force Base marking a milestone for the UAS technology designed to support the all-weather multi-platform radar technology insertion program.
"AF-18, the eleventh of the next-generation Global Hawk Block 20/30/40s to arrive at Edwards Air Force Base, performed beautifully," George Guerra, Northrop Grumman HALE systems vice president, said in a statement.
"This flight marks the continuation of our Global Hawk flight test program, and is a testament to the team comprised of people from Northrop Grumman and the Air Force who have worked so hard to make this happen."
