SUNNYVALE, Calif., Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Lockheed Martin has been selected by the U.S. Navy to support the Fleet Ballistic Missile program with hardware and maintenance services.
U.S. company Lockheed Martin received a contract to provide support for the Trident II D5 FBM program as part of the Navy's Strategic Systems Program. Under the $851 million deal, Lockheed Martin will continue the D5 Life Extension effort along with providing hardware support.
The Trident II D5 FBM program supports the Navy's Trident II Ohio-class submarines and ensures ballistic missile readiness.
"Under the leadership of the Navy's Strategic Systems Program, the Fleet Ballistic Missile program sets the standard for partnership, disciplined performance and continual improvement," Melanie Sloane, Lockheed Martin Space Systems vice president of fleet ballistic missile programs, said in a statement.
"We are dedicated to supporting the Navy as it continues to raise the bar on this critically important program."
