STAFFORD, Va., Dec. 4 (UPI) -- American Rheinmetall Munitions announced the opening of its new green ammunition production facility to support evolving Defense Department requirements.

U.S. company ARM's new production facility located in Camden, Ark., was established as part of an effort to address the growing market demand for environmentally conscience 40-millimeter ammunition technologies.

ARM has qualified its Mk281 and M1110 training munitions to support several weapons variants including machine guns and grenade launcher systems.

ARM says its green training munitions also address the Defense Department's mission to "resolve unexploded ordnance issues … (the) Mk281 and M1110 fired projectiles can be stepped on, picked up, rolled over, and excavated with no risk of bodily harm," a new release said.
