MCLEAN, Va., Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Alion Science and Technology announced the launch of a three-dimensional training program to support U.S. Navy recruits with Battle Stations 21.

Before graduating boot camp, enlisted Navy recruits have to pass BS-21, which includes testing the recruits with simulated floods and mass casualty exercises among other challenges on a replica DDG Destroyer.

U.S. company Alion announced it has developed a Damage Control Trainer, a 3-D simulator serious game technology designed to prepare recruits for the BS-21 exercises.

"With Damage Control Trainer, we're putting into context all the knowledge Navy recruits glean in a classroom setting," Richard Brooks, Alion senior vice president and manager of the Distributed Simulation Group, said in a statement.

"Up until now, these recruits have never stepped foot on a ship, and this 3-D virtual environment training really drives it home for them."
