HOUSTON, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has contracted BAE Systems to produce and deliver its Launcher Chassis for integration with the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System.
British company BAE was awarded the contract from the Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command. Under the $23.75 million deal, BAE's Texas-based operations will manufacture 65 of its XM1140A1 Launcher Chassis units.
Officials say the XM1140A1 Launcher Chassis will go to support the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, or HIMARS, and are expected to include the company's Increased Crew Protection cab among other armor technologies.
"With our Increased Crew Protection cab technology and sharing many of the same components as our combat proven Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles, these up-armored HIMARS chassis demonstrate BAE Systems' unique ability to support the entire Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles-based fleet," Dennis Morris, BAE Systems president of Global Tactical Systems, said in a statement.
