SO. ST. PAUL, Minn., Nov. 17 (UPI) -- The Portuguese air force has contracted Digital Angel to deliver its personal beacon technologies to support emergency location requirements.

U.S. company Digital Angel says its Sarbe business unit was selected for the contract. Under the initial $400,000 award, Sarbe will deliver its 6-406G Personal Locator Beacon systems for the Portuguese air force.

Sarbe says its 6-406G technology, widely deployed with air force units around the world for emergency identification requirements, is a next-generation variant and will replace the now obsolete Sarbe 6 system for the Portuguese air force.

"Once again our reputation and position in the military personal locator beacon market has led to another air force selecting Sarbe equipment," Joseph Grillo, Digital Angel chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"The Sarbe 6-406G is now in service with 21 air forces worldwide, demonstrating the confidence that these prestigious organizations have in our products."
