IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide has been selected to deliver its tactical diesel hybrid vehicles to the U.S. Army to support special operations.
U.S. company Quantum announced it will ship its Clandestine Extended Range Vehicle diesel hybrid electric vehicle to the Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center National Automotive Center.
As part of the project, which is administered by U.S. company Alion Science and Technology and supported with funding from the Special Operations Command, Quantum will continue development of its CERV technology and deliver units for use in quick-paced special operations.
"I am excited about our next generation diesel hybrid powertrain technologies and our new military special operations vehicle that is well-positioned to create another highly fuel-efficient and powerful platform that improves the military's tactical capabilities," Alan Niedzwiecki, Quantum president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
"We believe that the CERV program offers innovative solutions to meet the mission of the national defense effort, while reducing the fuel logistic burden. We acknowledge the support from Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center National Automotive Center for the success of this program."
