FAIRFAX, Va., Nov. 10 (UPI) -- The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command has contracted General Dynamics to support the development of a tailored mission planning system.

U.S. company General Dynamics says its Information Technology unit was awarded the contract to provide the Naval Integrated Tactical Environmental System Next Generation, or NITES-Next, program with development support.

Under the $22.2 million deal, General Dynamics will help develop and test the NITES-Next as part of a network-centric solution that is designed to provide mission-planning and command-and-control technologies with tailored meteorological and oceanographic information.

"General Dynamics is excited to work with SPAWAR and the U.S. Navy to deliver a next generation tactical environmental system that will assist with safe passage and provide complete environmental assessment and situational awareness necessary for successful military operations," Kenneth Slaght, General Dynamics Information Technology Naval IT solutions sector vice president and general manager, said in a statement.
