TEWKSBURY, Mass., Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Raytheon announced a milestone achievement with partner KaZaK Composites following a successful advance to a phase III production contract with the U.S. Navy.
U.S. company Raytheon and small-business partner KaZaK have been working together on a project with the Naval Sea Systems Command to develop a composite ballistic screen for the Navy's Zumwalt-class destroyer (DDG 1000).
Raytheon and KaZaK announced the completion of the composite ballistic screen's design phase and have successfully advanced the project to a phase III production level, marking a milestone achievement.
"This project has set a benchmark for how Navy, industry and small business innovative research acquisition teams can leverage the expertise of a talented and agile small business, such as KaZaK, to meet real warfighter needs with advanced yet affordable technology," Michael Sosin, Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems vice president of Integrated Warfare Systems and Zumwalt program manager, said in a statement.
