BAE to deliver parachute replacement

PHOENIX, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- The U.S. Amy has contracted BAE Systems to deliver next-generation parachutes designed to enable paratroopers to carry additional mission critical gear.

BAE says its Security and Survivability unit was selected by the Army to support the phase out of the T-10 parachutes. BAE, one of three contractors selected for the phase out program, will replace the T-10 with the next-generation T-11 Personnel Parachute System.

The new T-11s are designed to allow paratroopers the ability to equip themselves with additional weight in gear while providing a slower rate of decent as part of an effort to reduce injuries.

"The T-11 Personnel Parachute System provides airborne troops with critical survivability advantages," Joe Coltman, BAE Systems Personnel Protection Systems vice president, said in a statement.
