LONDON, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- General Dynamics has submitted its infantry fighting vehicle as a bid on the British Ministry of Defense's solicitation for a new armored fighting vehicle.

U.S. company General Dynamics says its U.K. unit is leading a team offering its ASCOD Infantry Fighting Vehicle as a proposal to address the British army's call on the defense community for a next-generation reconnaissance armored fighting vehicle.

Officials say the General Dynamics ASCOD vehicle, submitted for the Specialist Vehicle element of the British Future Rapid Effect System, or FRES SV, is designed as a highly mobile vehicle with advanced crew protections.

"General Dynamics' ASCOD Specialist Vehicle has leap-frogged its rival for FRES," Sandy Wilson, General Dynamics UK president and managing director, said in a statement.

"Based on a proven European design, ASCOD SV is the latest-generation vehicle developed specifically for FRES SV by a team of General Dynamic's British and European engineers."
