PINE BROOK, N.J., Nov. 3 (UPI) -- The U.S. Transportation Security Administration has contracted Smiths Detection to deliver its liquid threat detection technologies.

U.S. company Smiths Detection received an order from the Transportation Security Administration to support the Bottle Liquid Scanner program. Under the $21.9 million deal, Smiths Detection will deliver its RespondeR BLS detectors, a portable liquid threat detection scanner.

Smith Detection says its RespondeR BLS technology, designed to detect threats from non-illicit liquids, is tailored specifically for the TSA to support airport security initiatives.

"We are delighted that Transportation Security Administration has chosen our portable liquid detector, again underlining our ability to provide the most advanced technologies for vital airport security," Stephen Phipson, Smiths Detection president, said in a statement.

"Smiths Detection is committed to developing state-of-the-art solutions that increase public safety."
