LOS ANGELES, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- U.S. company Boeing has contracted Ducommun Inc. to support the production of C-17 Globemaster III military aircraft with its specialized fuselage skins.

Ducommun says its AeroStructures unit was awarded the follow-on contract to manufacture and deliver its fuselage skins that stretch over and help form the C-17 Globemaster's oversized fuselage components.

Officials say the fuselage skins for the C-17 Globemaster III, a military transport aircraft used by the U.S. Air Force and several allied defense forces for heavy-lift applications, will be produced at the company's DAS Gardena facility.

"We are pleased to continue production of some of the largest fuselage skins in the aerospace industry," Joseph Berenato, Ducommun chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
