ARCHBALD, Pa., Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Lockheed Martin announced a milestone for its Paveway II missile system following successful test flights with a U.S. Navy Super Hornet fighter aircraft.
U.S. company Lockheed Martin says its next-generation Paveway II Plus Laser Guided Bomb guidance kit has successfully completed two flight tests at the Navy's China Lake, Calif., test ranges.
The tests of Lockheed Martin's Paveway II Plus, an upgrade to the Paveway II LGB designed to improve precision, were conducted using the GBU-10 missile with the Paveway II Plus MAU-209C/B Computer Control Group. Officials say the next-generation missile technology successfully hit its specified targets.
"The Paveway II Plus is a revolutionary performance improvement to the Paveway II LGB weapon system," Joe Serra, Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control senior manager for precision guided systems, said in a statement.
"Our team fully embraced the challenge to cost effectively improve the precision of this mature weapon system without impacting logistics. The Paveway II Plus provides significantly better impact accuracy without any changes to the aircraft platform or weapon employment."
