CHARLESTON, S.C., Oct. 26 (UPI) -- The Homeland Security Department has awarded a grant to support the Coast Guard-led security operations at the Port of Charleston in South Carolina.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has awarded South Carolina an $800,000 grant to support security authorities stationed at SeaHawk at the Port of Charleston.

SeaHawk is a Coast Guard-led station operated in partnership with law enforcement authorities from the state of South Carolina as part of an effort to secure the Port of Charleston.

"SeaHawk represents a critical partnership between federal, state and local law enforcement partners to share information and coordinate response … (and) enhance our capabilities to deter terrorists and other criminals," Napolitano said in a statement.
