SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- U.S. company Harris Corp. announced the launch of its new airborne-hardened encoder technology designed to support unmanned aerial vehicle operations.
Harris introduced its new AcuityH264 airborne encoding solution at the GEOINT 2009 Conference in San Antonio. The AcuityH264 is a compact high-definition and standard-definition encoding technology designed as a next-generation transmitter of surveillance data gathered by UAVs.
Officials say the development of the AcuityH264 is part of an effort address the evolving requirements of military operations and also commercial broadcast markets.
"The AcuityH264 delivers enriched content that adds value to, and greatly simplifies, the task of analysts on the ground as they gather information that is critical to decision-making," Wes Covell, Harris Government Communications Systems Defense Programs president, said in a statement.
"This new product from Harris is another example of our commitment to providing the most advanced tools for information gathering, processing and exploitation."
