OSHKOSH, Wis., Oct. 20 (UPI) -- The U.S. Marine Corps has received its first heavy payload Logistics Vehicle System Replacement in Afghanistan following the delivery by Oshkosh Defense.
Wisconsin-based Oshkosh was contracted to deliver three of its LVSR cargo vehicles designed for the Marines with a 600-horsepower C15 engine for heavy payload operational requirements in Afghanistan.
Company officials say the remaining two LVSR vehicles along with two Field Service Representatives will be delivered to Afghanistan before the end of October.
"The fielding of this vehicle in Afghanistan is a significant milestone for both the U.S. Marine Corps and Oshkosh Defense," Andy Hove, Oshkosh Corp. executive vice president, said in a statement.
"The LVSR expands on the capabilities of the Logistics Vehicle System, which has been an integral part of the Marine Corps fleet for nearly 25 years, to negotiate and overcome the most challenging environments, including those found in Afghanistan."
