Army contracts for aviator vision tech

ROANOKE, Va., Oct. 19 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has contracted ITT Corp. to deliver its vision imaging technology for use by rotary-wing aviators during night operations.

U.S. company ITT was awarded the contract from the Army Research Development and Engineering Command. Under the $72 million indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity award, ITT will deliver its Aviator's Night Vision Imaging Systems.

ITT imagining systems contract, which includes the company's night vision Generation 3 Pinnacle tubes and spare parts, enables aviators to effectively operate during dark and low-light night missions.

"This award continues our long history of supplying U.S. Army rotary-wing aviators with the most advanced night vision technology available," Mike Hayman, ITT Night Vision business president, said in a statement.

"ITT's Generation 3 image intensification technology provides aviators the clearest vision on even the darkest nights, and in the most demanding environments."
