More armor kits for M-ATV

BENNINGTON, Vt., Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Oshkosh Defense subcontractor Plasan announced a contract to supply the U.S. Army with 923 armor kits for its all-terrain combat vehicle.

Plasan said it won a contract for 923 armor kits for the mine-resistant, ambush-protected all-terrain vehicle as a subcontractor for Oshkosh.

The company provides so-called survivability options for combat vehicles, including air and naval platforms. The engineers for Plasan are veterans of the Israeli military, which the company says gives it an advantage in terms of its relationship with the end user.

"As soldiers building for soldiers, Plasan understands that these armor solutions are critically needed," said Dan Ziv, chief executive officer of Plasan.

Plasan in August was contracted by Oshkosh to deliver 1,700 armor kits for the M-ATV, receiving an order for more than 350 additional units in September.

Plasan said its rapid delivery system is based on a modular concept that ships armor parts and components to Oshkosh in order to streamline the manufacturing process.

The first Oshkosh M-ATVs arrived in Afghanistan in early October, just three months after the Defense Department awarded the contract.
