ST. LOUIS, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. awarded a $1.8 million contract to LaBarge Inc. to produce electronic assemblies for the UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter.

The electronic assemblies support an inlet barrier filtration system that LaBarge says extends the lifecycle of the Blackhawk engine.

The Sikorsky Blackhawk is a staple for troop transport, electronic warfare and medical evacuations. It went into service with the U.S. 101st Airborne Division in June 1979.

LaBarge has operated in support of the Blackhawk program in 2005. Production of the electronic assemblies takes place at its Arkansas facility.

The work is expected to run through July 2010.
