ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill., Oct. 2 (UPI) -- The U.S. Air Force awarded Northrop Grumman Corp. a $153 million contract for a self-contained laser targeting and sensor system with "plug-and-play" ability.

Northrop Grumman described its LITENING G4 targeting and sensor system as a surveillance and navigation system that features "plug-and-play" technology for a variety of data links to aircrafts.

"With LITENING G4, the Air Force is obtaining the very latest and most advanced technology in targeting and surveillance capabilities offered by anyone in the world," said Mike Lennon, vice president of targeting and surveillance programs at Northrop Grumman.

LITENING G4 is the only technology in production that features an all-digital forward-looking sensor, laser targeting and "plug-and-play" technology.

The company will deliver the technology to active U.S. Air Force, Air Force Reserve Command and the Air National Guard.
