EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Sept. 21 (UPI) -- The U.S. Air Force has given a new designation to Raytheon's radar technology integrated in the Boeing-made F-15E Strike Eagle fighter aircraft.

U.S. company Raytheon announced its next-generation active electronically scanned array radar technology has received a new Air Force designation of AN/APG-82(V)1.

The APG-82 active electronically scanned array radar is part of an effort to support the F-15E fleet with advanced air-to-air and air-to-surface capabilities to modernize the multi-role mission capabilities of the Eagle aircraft.

"Raytheon's relentless commitment to AESA technology enhancement ensures the warfighter is equipped with the most advanced systems in air combat today," Tom Kennedy, Raytheon Tactical Airborne Systems vice president, said in a statement.

"The approval of the APG-82 designation cements Raytheon's leadership as the AESA radar provider and underscores our continued success at delivering cutting-edge, proven technology to our customers."
