
WASHINGTON, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- The U.S. Defense Department and several other federal agencies are sponsoring a workshop designed to strengthen efforts to counter explosive threats.
The Department of Defense's Combating Terrorism Technical Support Office, FBI, State Department, and Department of Homeland Security's Directorate for Science and Technology among several other agencies are sponsoring the Explosives Detection 2009 Symposium and Workshop.
The workshop, scheduled to take place in San Diego, is part of an effort to bring together security authorities and experts from government, academic and private industries to collaborate and strengthen capabilities in countering terrorism and explosive threats.
According to a news release the "four-day event will bring together a diverse group of scientists, industry professionals, academics, and end-users for discussions and interaction covering a wide range of disciplines within the field of explosives detection."
