BASKING RIDGE, N.J., Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Axion International Holdings Inc. announced it has successfully completed a recycled bridge project for the U.S. Army.
U.S. company Axion says it completed the construction of its recycled plastic bridge prototypes at Fort Bragg in North Carolina following a commission from the Army.
Officials say the plastic bridges, which are designed to support the crossing of armored military vehicles, are part of an initiative by the Army to lower costs associated traditional wooden bridges and increase the load-bearing capabilities to facilitate troop movements.
"The military provides a compelling validation for Axion's high-growth business model and our cutting-edge technology," James Kerstein, Axion chief executive officer, said in a statement.
"Not only are Axion's bridges eco-friendly, they are superior in their structural properties and remarkably cost-effective. We strongly believe the success of these prototypes will lead to significantly more business from the military."
