CHATTANOOGA, Tenn., Sept. 2 (UPI) -- The U.S.-based Y-12 National Security Complex-Adaptive Methods partnership announced a successful demonstration of its portable emergency response shelter.
Y-12 and Adaptive Methods announced their Rapid Deployment Shelter System was successfully demonstrated Tuesday at the Adaptive Methods manufacturing facility in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The RDSS was developed by Y-12 following a request by U.S. Army. Officials say the RDSS, modified for commercial applications by Adaptive Methods, is designed to be easily deployed to support shelter requirements in the event of an emergency incident like a terrorist attack or natural disaster around the world.
"The RDSS is a progressive and unique technological solution for everyday challenges faced around the globe," U.S. Rep. Zach Wamp, R-Tenn., said in a statement.
"Now families that lost their home in a natural disaster can get shelter and medical treatment even when the roads are flooded. This completely unique and highly mobile structure can be adapted to various emergency response situations."
