CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Goodrich announced it has received a contract to provide the Air Force's fleet of C-130 heavy lift transport aircraft with life-cycle maintenance services.
U.S. company Goodrich was selected for the C-130 aircraft refit deal by the Defense Department's Defense Logistics Agency. Under the award, Goodrich will provide the C-130 aircraft with its Duracarb carbon brakes and boltless wheels.
The contract, supported by Goodrich's Aircraft Wheels and Brakes unit, also includes flight tests among other brakes and wheels retrofit requirements.
"Our C-130 wheel and brake design incorporates innovative solutions from our unique experience with large boltless aircraft wheels, as well as our high-performance Duracarb carbon braking material," Brian Brandewie, Goodrich Aircraft Wheels and Brakes president, said in a statement.
"We believe the low-risk design and validation approach used by the Air Force as part of the source selection criteria combined with our advanced aircraft wheel and brake technologies will provide the C-130 community with significant performance, cost and maintainability benefits throughout the life of the program."
