TUCSON, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has contracted Applied Energetics Inc. to continue development of its Laser Guided Energy transformational weapon technologies.
U.S. company Applied Energetics was awarded the contract from the Army Research, Development and Engineering Command. Under the $3.1 million Ordnance Technology Initiative Agreement, Applied Energetics will continue to develop its LGE technology.
Officials say the LGE transformational weapon system is designed to engage targets with a laser-guided controllable high-voltage electric charge.
"We look forward to working with the Army on the continued development of our LGE technology to meet their mission requirements," Joe Hayden, Applied Energetics chief operating officer, said in a statement.
"This contract signifies the continued commitment of the Army to mature LGE and advance this technology to the field."
