MANASSAS, Va., Aug. 18 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy has contracted Lockheed Martin to provide a submarine imaging technology with engineering support services.

U.S. company Lockheed Martin was selected by the Navy to support its AN/BVY-1 Integrated Submarine Imaging System. Under the almost $93 million deal, Lockheed Martin will provide the ISIS technology with design, development, field engineering and system support services among other requirements.

The ISIS, integrated with the Navy's Los Angeles-class attack submarines, Ohio-class guided missile submarines and scheduled for integration into the Virginia-class submarine, provides digital video and still images for submarine crews presenting real-time imagery.

"With ISIS, a submarine operator can manipulate a photonics mast with a joystick, while looking at digital video on a computer monitor, and share that video real-time with the entire combat team on various displays aboard the vessel," Denise Saiki, Lockheed Martin Undersea Systems vice president and general manager, said in a statement.
