LM JLTV prototypes surpass testing mark

OWEGO, N.Y., Aug. 14 (UPI) -- U.S. company Lockheed Martin announced a testing milestone in the development of its Joint Light Tactical Vehicle prototypes.

The Lockheed Martin-led team, which includes BAE Systems, Alcoa Defense and JWF-Defense Systems, says its first four operational JLTV prototypes have surpassed 50,000 combined miles of testing.

Officials say the JLTV prototypes, which undergo 2,000 miles of secondary and off-road testing every week, include one prototype in each vehicle category and two Category B model variants.

"From the time we formed our JLTV team more than four years ago, one of our standing objectives has been to literally drive risk out of the JLTV program," Lou DeSantis, Lockheed Martin vice president of JLTV Systems, said in a statement.

"Through prototyping and off-road testing, we're doing just that. Surpassing the 50,000 test mile threshold emphasizes our commitment to delivering a mature, low-risk family of vehicles for the U.S. Army and Marine Corps as quickly as possible, and also speaks volumes to the hard work and dedication of our entire JLTV team."
