SIGNAL HILL, Calif., Aug. 12 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has contracted Integrated Medical Systems Inc. to deliver its portable intensive care unit technologies.

California-based Integrated Medical Systems was awarded the funding from the Army Medical Research Material Command. Under the approximately $3.25 million deal, Integrated Medical Systems will deliver its MedEx 1000 intensive care units.

The MedEx 1000, recently given clearance from the Food and Drug Administration, is a "suitcase" intensive care technologies, a news release said.

Officials say the funding will also be used for further development of the MedEx 1000.

"Following last fall's FDA clearance of the MedEx 1000 product, this order for MedEx 1000 units is the next step towards transforming critical care, both on the battlefield and here at home," Todd Kneale, Integrated Medical Systems president and chief operating officer, said in a statement.

"In addition, the contract will allow further enhancements of the product, demonstrating the Army Medical Department's Development and Acquisition agency commitment to continuously improving healthcare."
