SAN DIEGO, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- U.S. company Northrop Grumman's development of its vertical takeoff and landing tactical unmanned aircraft vehicle is progressing following successful tests.

Northrop Grumman says recent flight tests of its MQ-8B Fire Scout unmanned aircraft a aboard the U.S. Navy's USS McInerney missile-guided frigate were successfully completed.

The flight tests, which took place off Florida's east coast over four days, were part of an effort to measure the Fire Scout's shipboard landing capabilities in a number of deck motion and wind conditions among other evaluations.

"The recent flight test success aboard the USS McInerney continue to highlight Fire Scout's maturity and status as a U.S. Navy program of record," Doug Fronius, Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems director of Tactical Unmanned Systems, said in a statement.
