Standards set for TSA's CrewPASS program

WASHINGTON, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- The U.S. Transportation Security Administration announced it has established standards for its new biometric-based flight crew identity program.

The TSA, working with Air Line Pilots Association International and others in a public-private partnership, announced it has set the standards for the new CrewPASS program.

The CrewPASS program is part of an effort to establish biometric personal identity verification for flight crews to strengthen security on passenger aircraft. With the establishment of standards, the CrewPASS program is expected to eventually expand the screening process to airports across the United States.

"CrewPASS is an excellent example of public-private partnership that expedites travel for flight crews, while increasing security standards," John Sammon, TSA assistant administrator, said in a statement.
