WILMINGTON, Mass., Aug. 3 (UPI) -- U.S. company Textron Defense Systems announced it has established a new business line dedicated to laser technology development.
Textron announced the creation of its Directed Energy Weapons business line as part of a move to focus efforts on competing in the evolving military laser technologies market.
The new Directed Energy Weapons line, led by John Boness, will build on the company's Avco Everett Research Laboratory with more than 20 years of experience.
"We are positioned well as a competitor in this market and have had significant success of late with contract awards for the Joint High Powered Solid State Laser program … as well as the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency High Energy Liquid Laser Area Defense System programs," Boness said in a statement.
