OSHKOSH, Wis., Aug. 3 (UPI) -- GE Aviation announced the recent debut of a C-5M Super Galaxy military transport aircraft with new engines as part of a U.S. Air Force modernization program.
The Lockheed Martin-built C-5M aircraft delivered to the Air Force is now equipped with four new CF6-80C2 engines from U.S. company GE Aviation as part of a two-phase modernization effort.
GE Aviation announced the showcasing of the C-5M powered with the CF6-80C2 engines at the recent Oshkosh AirVenture 2009 in Wisconsin, which ended Sunday.
"We are proud to celebrate this significant achievement with Lockheed Martin and the U.S. Air Force," Allen Paxson, GE Aviation Military Systems vice president, said in a statement.
"The engine has consistently demonstrated the lowest specific fuel consumption of any commercial engine in its thrust class. Our Tech CF6 program offers new advanced technologies to further improve the engine's fuel burn retention and operational reliability and lower our customer's cost of ownership."
