ARLINGTON, Va., July 30 (UPI) -- The U.S. Homeland Security Department has awarded CACI International Inc. a task order to support the protection of U.S. national infrastructure.

U.S. company CACI was awarded the contract from the Homeland Security Department's National Protection and Program Directorate.

Under the initial task order award worth $14.2 million, CACI will provide enhanced communications solutions for the duty and watch desks along with other operational support to help protect the U.S. national infrastructure.

"Since we were selected as a prime on the Enterprise Acquisition Gateway for Leading Edge Solutions program of the Homeland Security Department in 2006, we have been at the forefront of providing the agency with information technology support services," Paul Cofoni, CACI president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"Now this new work with the National Protection and Program Directorate enables us to also deliver the mission support so vital to keeping our nation safe against both natural and man-made threats."
