MARLBOROUGH, Mass., July 20 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army and Raytheon announced the successful testing of a satellite communications production terminal technology.

U.S. company Raytheon says the first Advanced Extremely High Frequency satellite communications production terminals have successfully completed testing.

Raytheon was recently contracted to upgrade the military's satellite communication technology to a next-generation system. Officials say the AEHF testing marks a milestone and verifies that it "meets all performance, function and production requirements," a news release said.

"With the cancellation of the Transformational Communications Satellite system, AEHF solutions are more critical than ever," Jerry Powlen, Raytheon Network Centric Systems Integrated Communications Systems vice president, said in a statement.

"Raytheon has shown its commitment to protected satellite communications by providing key AEHF solutions to the U.S. Army, Air Force and Navy."
