NEPTUNE, N.J., July 14 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy has contracted Planet Associates Inc. to support the Defense Department's network-centric information technology initiatives.

U.S. company Planet Associates was awarded an Enterprise Software Initiative/General Service Administration SmartBUY Blanket Purchase Agreement from the Navy.

Under the contract, part of the Defense Department's Network-Centric IT Asset Management initiative, Planet Associates will provide its Infrastructure Relationship Management Software along with other support services.

Company officials say the Infrastructure Relationship Management Software is designed to provide critical infrastructure information consolidation and streamline IT operations.

"This award is an acknowledgement of Defense Department and General Services Administration confidence in Planet Infrastructure Relationship Management's current federal implementations and the desire to make our software easily available," William Spencer, Planet Associates president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"The need for critical infrastructure visibility is apparent, and Planet Infrastructure Relationship Management has been proven to increase oversight and facilitate more reliable asset management."
