ROCHESTER, N.Y., July 1 (UPI) -- Swedish defense officials announced a contract with Harris Corp. to support Swedish soldiers with its secured personal radio technologies.
U.S. company Harris was awarded the contract from the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration to support the Inter/Intra Group Radio program. Under the deal, Harris will deliver 900 of its RF-7800S Secure Personal Radios for deployment with the Nordic Battle Group.
Officials say the contract for the RF-7800S radio technologies is part of an effort by Sweden to provide soldiers with continuous connection to real-time information while on operations.
"Our goal is to enhance the communication capabilities within individual squads, as well as provide detailed information exchange between squad and platoon levels, enabling safer and more effective operations," Maria Holmberg, Swedish Defense Materiel Inter/Intra Group Radio administration project manager, said in a statement.
"The Harris RF-7800S delivered the voice and data capabilities critical to our application, combined with a superior level of durability and performance."
