TEWKSBURY, Mass., June 26 (UPI) -- The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has awarded Raytheon funding to improve the advanced defense electronics system's thermal performance.
U.S. company Raytheon was selected by DARPA to lead a team that includes experts from Purdue University and the Georgia Institute of Technology. Under the $6 million award, Raytheon will develop nano thermal interface materials.
Officials say the development of nanomaterials is part of an effort to improve the thermal performance of advanced defense electronics systems and result in "more capable defense systems," a release said.
"Research into thermal management solutions and technologies will enable future defense systems to have enhanced performance at lower cost," Michael Del Checcolo, Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems vice president of engineering, said in a statement.
"The Nano Thermal Interface Materials program draws upon the extensive experience of our team and is focused on application requirements that will provide our warfighters with the most advanced systems possible."
