TORONTO, June 18 (UPI) -- Canadian company Magellan Aerospace has been contracted to support the F-35 Lightning II aircraft program with titanium components.

Magellan Aerospace says its Chicopee Manufacturing division will support the Lockheed Martin-built F-35 Lightning II aircraft Conventional Take-Off and Landing, the Short Take-Off and Vertical Landing and Carrier variants as part of the Joint Strike Fighter program.

Under the $60 million contract, Magellan Aerospace will deliver complex machined titanium components to support the Leading Edge Flap installation and Aft Engine Thrust Mounts for the F-35 program.

The Joint Strike Fighter program is part of an effort to provide the U.S. military with a next-generation fighter aircraft.
