LONDON, June 12 (UPI) -- Northrop Grumman announced it has received a contract to provide the British Royal Navy's Type 45 destroyers with technical services.

U.S. company Northrop Grumman says its Sperry Marine business unit was awarded the contract to support the integrated platform management systems installed in the Type 45 destroyers.

The contract, from Type 45 program prime contractor BVT Surface Fleet Ltd, is worth approximately $3.6 million to support the IPMS ship engine and systems monitoring system.

Officials say the contract also includes maintenance, repair, and upgrades for the IPMS among other services.

"This highly integrated network is designed to provide accurate and consistent data collection and display across all the functional boundaries of the ship, a capability that is vital to the safe and efficient operation of a modern warship," Nolasco DaCunha, Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine vice president, said in a statement.
