TEWKSBURY, Mass., June 11 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy has contracted Raytheon to deliver its radar technology to support the Zumwalt-class destroyer program.

U.S. company Raytheon was awarded a contract to procure long-lead materials for two Volume Search Radar arrays. The Navy awarded $217 million for the VSR arrays to support the Zumwalt-class destroyer program and the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78).

The Navy uses a Dual Band Radar that combines the S-band and X-band radar capabilities. According to a news release, the Lockheed Martin built S-band VSR radar arrays "are integrated with Raytheon's SPY-3 X-band Multi-Function Radar."

"This contract demonstrates the Navy's continuing confidence in the maturity of this radar technology and the capability of the industry team to deliver the Zumwalt-class radar suite and combat system," Michael Sosin, Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems representative, said in a statement.
