PORT TOWNSEND, Wash., June 9 (UPI) -- The U.S. Marine Corps has contracted Intellicheck Mobilisa to install its identification reading technologies at the Parris Island Marine Recruit Depot.

U.S. company Intellicheck Mobilisa was selected by the Marines to provide its Defense ID access control system at the Parris Island Marine Recruit Depot in South Carolina.

The Defense ID technology, deployed at more than 70 military and other U.S. government installations, is designed to scan military IDs, driver's licenses and other documents and then cross-check the information against a database of potential security threats.

"Thousands of new recruits come to Parris Island to become Marines each year, and with them come visitors, graduation ceremonies, and numerous public events," Nelson Ludlow, Intellicheck Mobilisa chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"We look forward to helping improve their safety while on post."
