LANCASTER, Pa., June 5 (UPI) -- U.S. company Herley Industries Inc. announced it has received a contract order for the delivery of technologies to support aerial target drones.

Herley says its Florida-based Micro Systems unit received the production order from an unnamed defense contractor. Under the $1.5 million deal, Herley will produce target control transponders for 15 full-scale aerial target drones.

Herley, a developer of microwave technology solutions for the defense market and others, says the contract also includes the delivery of spare assemblies.

"This option award is a prime example of the type of work that is the core of our business," Wayne Armstrong, Micro Systems president, said in a statement.

"This long term production contract was preceded by an extensive development effort. We are now in steady state production and expect annual orders for a number of years into the future."
